Arlington EATS is a visionary nonprofit engaging the community in eliminating food insecurity and hunger in Arlington, MA. We offer a wide range of innovative programs in order to meet the needs in our community.
Summary of Duties: The Market Manager’s primary responsibility will be the management of our largest program, the Market (a choice food pantry) and will work to ensure the program operates in working towards our mission, vision, and values. This position will also lend support in other program areas.
Position Type: This will be a full-time, non-exempt position (36 hours/week) and will report directly to the Program Director.
Hours/Days: 36 hours per week (majority on site). Flexible schedule, will require occasional evenings and up to two Saturday mornings a month to meet the needs of deliveries, inventory procurement, and distribution hours.
Food distribution currently runs Mondays 2-7:30 pm, Tuesdays & Wednesdays 8:30 am-12 pm, and Saturday 9 am-12 pm. School vacation lunch program runs the week prior to February and April school vacation weeks and 6 weeks each summer. Food deliveries arrive various times Monday through Thursday.
Duties include but not limited to:
Manage the day-to-day operations of the Market
- Oversee the procurement of food and personal care items from all sources, including, but not limited to the Greater Boston Food Bank, local suppliers/wholesalers, supermarkets, partner organizations, food rescue organizations, and farms; seek out new sources as needed.
- Answer guest questions with sensitivity to the needs of individuals and families who may have experienced trauma or those from varied cultural backgrounds.
- Ensure safe, clean, and efficient operation of the Market.
- In collaboration with the volunteer manager, this position will communicate with and supervise volunteers in order to maintain high-quality delivery of programs to guests.
- Management of ordering, purchasing, and inventory of food, personal care items, and operational supplies.
- Ensure compliance of staff and volunteers with nutrition and food safety policies.
- Maintain guest communications through signage, newsletters, and flyers.
Additional program management as needed
- Manage the school vacation (1 week each in February and April) and summer lunch programs (6 weeks in the summer) for families who rely on school meals.
- Support home delivery bag packing and driving, as needed.
- Oversee regular maintenance and repair of EATS’ refrigerated van.

Qualifications:
- Must have at least 2 years in customer service, with preference in food service or nonprofit management.
- Situational adaptability - must thrive in an environment with ambiguity and imperfect information while attempting to bring order to it.
- Ambitious, this job is ideal for a self-starter who can identify problems, fix them, and take initiative in accomplishing tasks.
- Deal with confidential information and/or issues using discretion and judgment.
- Must have servsafe and allergen training certification or be willing to take the course within 3 months of employment.
- Need to be a great team player and able to work with others to bring out the best in them as well as yourself.
- Must have a valid driver’s license (non-CDL), good driving record and be comfortable driving a 17ft long, high roof refrigerated van.
Skills:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Powerpoint, and Google applications suite (i.e., Google Calendar, Google Sheets, Google Forms, Google Docs).
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, must be able to work collaboratively with a wide range of volunteers, donors, and program guests
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Must be able to regularly lift 50 pounds.
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods, and sit at a desk to perform paperwork, writing, and computer functions.
