Position Overview
Resist operates as a Worker Self-Directed Non Profit (WSDN), which means we work in non-hierarchical and collectively accountable ways. We seek a candidate who can serve as one of our organization’s co-directors to help govern, manage, and carry out the organization’s work.
We believe that shifting from transactional to transformative relationships can help make liberation movements irresistible. Our communications are rooted in the beliefs that:
1) storytelling is an integral part of our path to justice and liberation
2) strategic communications can cultivate deep connections within and between grantees, donors, people, and movements for change.
The Director of Communications and Storytelling is a co-director of Resist and will primarily manage Resist’s communications programs. This person will be responsible for developing and executing strategic communications initiatives that amplify the impact and reach of our work and our grantees’ work. This includes crafting compelling narratives, managing media relations, producing content for diverse platforms, and ensuring consistent, transparent, and effective communication with our grantees, donors, and the broader philanthropic community.

Essential Responsibilities:
Strategic Communications:
- Develop and execute communications strategies that advance our mission and raise the profile of Resist and our grantee partners.
- Develop an annual communications plan and project manage multiple channels, including blogs, social media, video, email marketing, website, infographics, and print.
- Grow Resist’s digital and print audiences with targeted messaging strategy.
- Report and monitor metrics to regularly assess the effectiveness of our communications programs.
- Provide support and training for staff to represent Resist effectively on digital platforms, in speaking engagements, and with press and media.
Management and Admin:
- Manage our communications circle.
- Optimize and manage our email communications program for all stakeholders including grantees.
- Coordinate and support digital donor engagement efforts.
- Manage key messaging, branding, and style guides and ensure consistency and accuracy of messaging and branding guidelines.
Publications, Website, and Social Media:
- Manage digital platforms and develop assets for Resist’s website, listserv, social media, and print messaging to existing stakeholders and new audiences.
- Develop and manage all content for Resist’s website including website and back-end management, including communications with web developer.
- Create consistent, and compelling content for e-blasts, annual reports, and grant dockets.
- Create and post all social media content consistently across various social media platforms according to our yearly fundraising strategy.
Organizational Responsibilities
- Participate in and take turns leading weekly staff meetings and monthly staff retreats
- Collectively lead and engage in mutual support and accountability processes
- Collective organizational development work including financial management, fundraising support, strategic planning, budgeting, and more.
Qualifications
Resist is committed to finding someone with the right mix of political commitment and experiences (both traditional and nontraditional).
We are looking for someone who has:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills for digital, print, and media.
- Basic graphic design skills (i.e. knowledgeable using Canva).
- Ability and interest in working collaboratively as part of a non-hierarchical, virtual collective.
- Strong commitment to and participation in social movements for justice and liberation.
- Experience working with online databases and messaging platforms such as Constant Contact.
- Ability to think strategically and creatively, always seeking to understand the edge of emerging movements.
- Excitement around regularly giving and receiving feedback.
- Project management experience; working under deadlines and proactively communicating with others when any barriers to meeting those deadlines arise.
- Experience working with donors, grassroots organizations, and communities most impacted by oppression.
