TSS is collaborating with a nonprofit organization committed to breaking down barriers to children's success to hire a Director of Development & Communications for a permanent, full-time, onsite role in Brooklyn, NY. This role will move to hybrid once established.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
This role will oversee a team of five and report directly to the Founder/CEO. 60% of this role will be dedicated to leading fundraising strategies to engage individuals, corporations, and foundations. 40% of this role will focus on overseeing, developing, and executing strategic external communications, branding, and marketing efforts to reengage community partners.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead development team efforts to raise over half of the organization's $6M budget.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising and communication plan.
- Oversee development and communications teams, collaborating with consultants, finance, and program staff.
- Partner with the CEO, SVP of Organizational Development & Initiatives, and Board committees.
Corporate Partnerships
- Cultivate and expand corporate relationships to drive engagement and funding.
- Develop corporate partner pipelines and engagement strategies.
- Optimize corporate volunteer experiences.
Individual Giving
- Support leadership in donor cultivation and fundraising efforts.
- Identify and engage major donors while guiding Board fundraising initiatives.
- Implement donor cultivation, stewardship, and annual giving strategies.
Foundation & Grant Management
- Build and maintain relationships with private and corporate foundations.
- Oversee grant prospecting, proposal submissions, and reporting.
- Collaborate with finance and program teams for budget and data reporting.
Special Events
- Plan and execute events to engage donors and increase visibility.
- Work with event planners and Board committees to maximize impact.
Communications & Public Relations
- Develop and manage outreach strategies to enhance organizational visibility.
- Work with PR firm and internal teams to coordinate media and storytelling efforts.
- Oversee digital engagement, marketing materials, and public education initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising in a leadership role.
- Experience in nonprofits focused on human rights or social justice is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Public Relations, Marketing or Communications. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- Exceptional leadership, project management, and organizational skills.
- Proven track record of successfully securing major gifts, individual, foundation, grants, and corporate sponsorships of at least $2M a year.
- Experience working with Boards and committees.
- Strong storytelling and messaging skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Experience managing and growing donor databases, preferably Salesforce.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
The salary range for this role is $150,000-$160,000yr DOE. Benefits offered: Health Benefits, PTO, holiday pay, sick pay, 403b, and more!
