Summary
To provide diagnostic and therapeutic services relative to communicative skills to children enrolled in Gateway School as determined appropriate by the Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and the IEP Team; to collaborate with teaching teams, primary caregivers, and other professionals to meet the child's communicative needs; and to foster understanding about communication in general.
To fulfill the IEP requirements of the assigned students in the terms set forth by the IEP and in compliance with all applicable COMAR regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
● Maintain a schedule providing, in person, direct counseling services to a designated caseload
● Provide whole group instruction to classrooms and/or groups of students requiring counseling support services
● Consults with school staff, conducts formal school psychological evaluations of students for educational planning and placement as part of the IEP process, behavior management planning.
● Provides program consultation, programmatic groups, and direct counseling in small and group settings per the IEP.
● Provides services within the classroom setting to assist with prevention, intervention, and increase student achievement.
● Develops, implements, and tracks student progress with all IEP related goals and objectives.
● Directly provides assistance to teachers, administrators, and other staff members regarding academic engagement for all students by identifying learning barriers, suggesting appropriate academic interventions, monitoring effectiveness of interventions, developing student organizational skills, and promoting learning strategies within the classroom setting.
● Works within the classroom setting to model and provide support to teaching staff to assist in implementation of programs.
● Provides in-service training and workshops to school staff regarding areas specific to expertise such as child development, the exceptional child, understanding psychological testing, curriculum and instruction theory and implementation, behavioral management, positive behavior interventions, and other relevant topics
● Facilitates effective instructions by assisting in identification of instructional needs for the individual student and diverse learners.
● Assists in individualizing instruction within the classroom setting by working directly with teachers and students.
● Supports positive behaviors and socially successful students by working with administrators, teachers and parents to promote students' positive interactions based on research-based, positive behavioral supports, and research-based prevention and intervention programs to support academic achievement.
● Contributes to a healthy learning environment by working directly with administrators and staff regarding research-based prevention and intervention strategies within classroom management, promoting positive peer relationships, social problem solving, student wellness, reduced risk-taking, and increased student achievement.
● Supports diverse learners by assessing learning and behavior needs (and considering issues related to family, culture, or language and learning style of disability) by working within the classroom setting to assist students directly in organizational skills, learning strategies, and study skills and provide direct feedback and information to teachers and other staff, as appropriate
● Actively participates on IEP teams, and other school-based teams, helping teams plan an appropriate IEP for students with disabilities including modifying and adapting curriculum and instruction, adjusting classroom facilities and routine to promote student engagement.
● Writes goals and objectives and support teachers and students within the classroom through supplementary aids and services, as appropriate.
● Assist families in understanding how to support education; help them navigate the special education process, and connect with community service providers when necessary.
● Performs and completes mandated services within timelines established by law, regulation, or policy including timely initiation of services for students, completing assessments and integrated psychological reports, progress reports and entering appropriate data and goals/objectives in the designated IEP or counseling online program.
● Consults with supervisory staff for psychological services regularly regarding assessment questions, counseling sessions, and other issues related to job tasks and performance.
● Participate in IEP meetings including annual reviews, eligibility, 60/90 day reviews, and parent requested meetings.

Competencies/Key Success Factors
To perform the job successfully, an individual will retain accountability for the following key success factors:
#1 Documentation
- Develops, collaborates, and writes IEPs, and other related reports.
- Conducts triennial evaluations or revaluations and reports accurate results.
- Completes accurate and timely daily service logs and billing trackers.
- Writes quarterly progress reports for each student within their IEP in a timely manner.
- Turns in all paperwork to IEP chair on or before their due dates per the IEP Calendar.
#2 Service
- Provides direct and indirect services as mandated in each student's IEP.
- Consults with classroom staff regarding student services, interventions, and progress to assist with student success.
- Completes makeup sessions in timely manner per the organization standards
- Provides in-service training to other disciplines when indicated.
#3 Communication
- Collaborates with all members of the IEP Team.
- Communicates with parents/guardians in relation to student progress and interventions to assist with student success and completes documentation of communication services in the electronic school databases.
- Provides discipline specific expertise through collaboration with other team members including classroom staff.
- Maintains open lines of communication with the supervisor and keeps the supervisor updated with progress and/or changes
- Communicates with direct supervisor with requests for PTO, sick leave, and personal leave
#4 Professional Growth
- Maintains adequate attendance rates per the standard of the organization.
- Participate in school-based professional development and orientation training.
- Completes annual training and CEU requirements per the therapist’s discipline specific governing bodies.
- Attends external training, webinars, and/or courses to maintain certification and licensure.
- Is solutions-focused, positive, reflective, and respectfully transparent with teachers, school leaders, colleagues, and supervisors.
- Participates in supervision sessions and feedback meetings.
- Completes annual review evaluations in a timely manner.

Education, Experience, Certifications/Licenses
● A Masters degree from an accredited Counseling or Psychology program is required.
● Must be licensed in the State of Maryland, by the Board of Counseling Examiners, Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as a Licensed Certified Professional Counselor (L.C.P.C.)
● The candidate must have clinical experience through internships or job placements in the provision of services to children with developmental, learning and/or emotional disabilities.
● Certified in or eligible for certification in crisis management.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
