Position Overview:
The Vice President of Finance is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing the organization’s financial operations, planning for sustainable growth, and ensuring fiscal accountability. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role combines visionary thinking with hands-on management to develop and implement financial strategies that support our expanding multi-site programs. This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive, detail-oriented finance professional with strong leadership skills and a passion for organizational excellence.
Essential Functions:
Financial Operations and Management
- Oversee day-to-day financial functions, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, audits, and tax preparation, ensuring accurate and efficient processes.
- Develop, implement, and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard organizational resources.
- Lead the budgeting process for individual sites and the overall organization, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
- Prepare and present financial statements and reports (annual, quarterly, and monthly) to internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with staff to improve financial systems and processes from the ground up, ensuring scalability and efficiency.
- Manage grant tracking processes for national, multi-site, and local funding sources.
Strategic Planning and Forecasting
- Work closely with the Executive Team to align financial strategies with organizational goals and expansion plans.
- Build financial models to support long-term growth and sustainability, incorporating data analysis and forecasting.
- Monitor program delivery costs and ensure alignment with revenue projections.
- Implement automation to streamline financial systems and enhance operational effectiveness.
- Assess organizational risks and design mitigation strategies to ensure financial stability.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Executive Team, providing insights to guide strategic decision-making.
- Partner with the Board of Trustees to deliver financial reports and manage cash flow.
- Ensure COO, CDO and Regional Directors have information necessary to manage revenue and expenses at national and site level.
- Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
- Provide support and resources to department heads to manage site-level and national-level revenue and expenses effectively.
- Drive the creation of multi-year financial forecasts and participatory budgeting processes.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration or related field.
- 5+ years of senior leadership experience in financial management.
- Proven ability to lead and manage financial operations in a dynamic, multi-state organization.
- Deep understanding of nonprofit financial principles, including compliance with GAAP and IRS regulations.
- Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and risk management.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a strong emphasis on cultural competency and the ability to effectively communicate across diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Flexible, adaptable, and well-organized, with a demonstrated capacity to navigate cross-cultural environments and foster inclusive spaces.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills with a strategic mindset.
- Excellent interpersonal and team-building skills, with experience in staff development.
- Strong attention to detail combined with the ability to see the bigger picture
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with accounting software and systems (e.g., Sage Intacct).
- Professional certifications such as CPA, CFA, or CMA.
