Job Title: Director of Philanthropy
Reports to: CEO
Salary: $100,000–$130,000
Position Overview:
The Director of Philanthropy serves as a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for designing and executing a strategic and comprehensive fundraising program to sustain and grow the organization’s mission and programs. This role establishes the annual fundraising goals, as approved by the CEO, and provides monthly performance updates to track progress toward these goals. A significant focus is leading the annual campaign and building deep donor connections, particularly with the CEO. The Director of Philanthropy also oversees all aspects of development, including donor stewardship, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, and signature fundraising events.
Key Responsibilities:
· Establish annual fundraising goals with input from the CEO, ensure alignment with organizational priorities, and provide monthly updates on performance to plan.
· Design and execute the organization’s annual campaign, integrating direct mail, digital outreach, personal solicitations, and events to maximize donor engagement and revenue.
· Work closely with the CEO to establish and deepen relationships with donors, focusing on building connections between donors and WRC’s leadership, mission, and programs.
· Identify, cultivate, and secure six- and seven-figure gifts from individual, corporate, and foundation donors, while expanding the donor base.
· Develop and oversee a robust donor stewardship program, ensuring meaningful recognition and fostering long-term donor relationships.
· Lead the planning and execution of major fundraising events, including the annual gala, donor
· Manage and mentor the development team, fostering a high-performing, collaborative culture and providing professional development opportunities.
· Partner with the CEO, and program leaders to identify funding opportunities, align initiatives, and engage board members in fundraising efforts.
· Oversee the creation of compelling fundraising materials, represent WRC at public events and donor meetings, and organize tours and informational gatherings to inspire donor support.
· Leverage donor management systems to track performance metrics, analyze trends, and inform strategic decision-making to optimize fundraising results.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Humanities or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) designation is strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit development, including a proven record of securing major gifts and leading comprehensive fundraising programs.
- Expertise in planning and executing large-scale events and capital campaigns.
- Strong public speaking, relationship-building, and strategic communication skills.
- Proficiency with donor database management and data analysis.
- Working knowledge of current federal (IRS) and state (CA) rules and regulations governing charitable giving.
- Understanding of and ability to apply marketing concepts and techniques, including market research and segmentation.
- Experience working on fundraising campaigns, including achieving financial goals that support capital and programmatic initiatives.
- Experience building and managing giving strategies, including setting financial goals
Preferred Experience:
· Familiarity with the challenges and opportunities of organizations supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
· Knowledge of nonprofit compliance and reporting requirements.
· Demonstrated ability to cultivate diverse funding sources and expand donor networks.
Work Environment:
This position combines office-based work with external engagements. Flexibility for occasional evening or weekend events is required to support organizational needs.
