We are seeking an experienced Communications & Development Professional to manage the communications and development team and oversee the advancement and implementation of our strategic communication and development plans. The ideal candidate will be an experienced manager and skilled communicator with extensive experience in fundraising and stakeholder engagement. You must be adaptable, balancing strategic thinking with hands-on tasks. You play a crucial role in driving the organization’s mission forward, ensuring that both internal and external communications are effective and that fundraising efforts are successful.

What am I going to do?
This critical role involves crafting and delivering compelling messaging, managing public relations, and spearheading development initiatives to secure financial support.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership:
- Supervision: Manage and mentor the communications and development team. Set objectives, provide feedback, and foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other departments and senior management to ensure alignment between communication and development strategies.
Communications:
- Strategic Planning: Refine and execute a comprehensive communications and government relations strategy that aligns with the organization’s mission and strategic plan. This includes digital, traditional and partnership marketing and communications.
- Marketing and Promotion: Develop and manage marketing and promotion strategies to increase awareness, engagement, and support for the organization’s mission, vision, and programs.
- Brand Management: Oversee the brand identity and content production for various platforms, including press releases, newsletters, website updates, social media, and marketing materials. Ensure brand and messaging consistency.
- Media Relations: Build and maintain relationships with media representatives. Coordinate media outreach, manage press inquiries, manage crisis communications, and organize press events.
- Internal Communication: Enhance internal communication strategies to keep staff, volunteers, and board members informed and engaged. Develop internal newsletters, announcements, and communication tools. Work with program team and to create and execute strategies.
- Evaluation and Assessment: Monitor and analyze the performance of communications and marketing initiatives; develop strategies for data informed continuous improvement.
Development:
- Fundraising Strategy: Refine and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including major gifts, grants, corporate sponsorships, and special events.
- Corporate Partnerships and Donor Relations: Cultivate and manage relationships with current and prospective donors and corporate foundations. Develop and implement strategies for donor stewardship and retention.
- Event Planning: Plan and execute fundraising events, including galas, auctions, and community outreach activities. Ensure events meet fundraising goals and enhance the organization’s visibility.
- Budget Management: Develop and manage the budget for communications and development activities. Monitor expenditures and ensure alignment with financial goals.
- Evaluation and Assessment: Monitor and analyze development efforts; develop strategies for data informed continuous improvement.
The Skill Set
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or a related field. Master’s degree or relevant certification is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in communications, fundraising, or development, with at least 3 years in a managerial and supervisory role.
- Skills:
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
o Proven experience in fundraising, donor relations, and grant writing.
o Strong media relations, government relations, and content creation abilities.
o Strategic thinking with a strong understanding of nonprofit fundraising.
o Effective organizational and project management skills.
o Proficiency in digital communication tools and fundraising platforms.

What we offer

- Your salary is supplemented with a competitive benefits package including health benefits, paid time off, and 401(k) employer match.
- Compensation of $75,000 - $85,000, commensurate with experience.
