GRAPHIC DESIGN MANAGER
OFFICE OF MARKETING and COMMUNICATIONS
SUMMARY
The Graphic Design Manager is responsible for creating visually compelling designs for the organization's marketing and communications materials. This role involves developing graphics for digital and print media, ensuring brand consistency, and contributing to the overall visual identity of the organization. The ideal candidate will be creative, skilled in design software, and passionate about using design to support the organization’s and its members’ success.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, LICENSE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
This position requires a creative, self-motivated, detail- and task-oriented individual who works independently as well as collaboratively and well under pressure. The successful candidate should possess strong design and communication skills. This position will interact with both internal and external stakeholders. Must be willing to learn and stay apprised of design trends and technologies. Must be proficient with a PC/Mac computer; project, content and asset management solutions; Microsoft Office and Teams; Adobe Creative Suite; and other design software. A bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communications or related field with 5 years of related experience is required. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years of related experience, preferably in a non-profit or student-focused organization, is preferred. Photography and/or videography experience, a plus.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
- Visual Identity Development: Contribute to the development and maintenance of the organization's visual brand identity. This includes logo design, color palettes, typography, and graphic standards.
- Marketing Material Design: Design a wide range of marketing materials, including:
- Brochures, flyers, and posters
- Event signage and promotional materials
- Website graphics and banners
- Social media graphics and templates
- Email marketing templates
- Logo and Branding: Develop and refine logos and branding elements for the organization’s programs, events, and initiatives.
- Multimedia Design: Create visual assets for multimedia projects, including:
- Basic video editing and graphics
- Animation for digital platforms (considering the need for motion and dynamism)
- Presentations
- Layout and Production: Design layouts for reports, newsletters, and other publications. Prepare files for print and digital production.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the marketing, communications, and other teams to understand design needs and ensure effective visual communication.
- Project Management: Support contractors, employees and other stakeholders in adherence to SkillsUSA style guidelines and graphic standards, manage select contractor assignments and feedback loops. Experience with project management in Asana, a plus.
- File Management: Organize and maintain design files and photo-video assets.
- Stay Current: Keep up-to-date with the latest design trends, software, and technologies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communications, or a related field with 5 years of related experience is required. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years of experience in graphic design, preferably in a non-profit or student-focused organization, is preferred.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) and other design software.
- Strong portfolio showcasing a range of design skills.
- Excellent visual design skills, including typography, layout, and color theory.
- Ability to create designs for both print and digital media.
- Understanding of branding principles.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and oral communication and collaboration skills.
- Passion for supporting student success.
Other Duties
- Required to attend the annual National Leadership and Skills Conference.
- Periodic travel may be needed to carry out the responsibilities of this position.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director and Director of Marketing and Communications.
