Organization: Grandma’s House of Hope (GHH) empowers the invisible populations of Orange County by serving those who truly slip between the cracks of other programs. Founded in 2004, GHH fills gaps in basic needs by providing wrap-around shelter services to Orange County’s most vulnerable, underserved and socio-economically disadvantaged women and men. Our welcoming homes nurture hope, our case managers promote growth, our counseling partners facilitate healing, and our housing navigators guide our participants toward stability. Position: The Philanthropy Ambassador (PA) will cultivate and steward relationships with potential donors to raise a diverse portfolio of funds for Grandma’s House of Hope.
What you will accomplish in this Role: Under the direction of the DoD, the PA will implement, develop, cultivate, solicit, and maintain relationships with major gift donors, foundations, and corporations to secure funding to meet the long-term financial needs of Grandma’s House of Hope (GHH). Develop and actively manage a portfolio of major gift prospects, sponsors and donors.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in human services or a related field is required.
- Three to six years of fundraising experience in major gifts or relevant experience.
The ideal Candidate has knowledge and experience in:
- Proven fundraising track record with experience identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding high-level donors.
- Public speaking with the ability to speak on the needs of the community clearly and compassionately, GHH’s mission and strategic goals to individuals, government officials, small to large groups of diverse people.
- Excellence in establishing effective relationships with private citizens, private industry, community leaders and groups, legislative representatives, advisory boards, co-workers, and volunteers.
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, and coordination of people and resources.
- Knowledge of communication methods using written, oral, and visual media.
- Demonstrating a high level of self-motivation, while working collaboratively within a team to achieve overall departmental and GHH’s goals.
- Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
- Using sound judgment and discretion in handling and securing sensitive confidential information, along with maintaining a highly professional manner.
- Using Bloomerang to its full capacity, running reports, and demonstrating basic features of the system.

- Work Schedule Flexible: Ability to work and attend events off-site during business hours, after business hours and/or weekends as needed. Attended events may be held outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions. Maintain flexibility to work remotely or in an office as directed by direct reporting manager and/or GHH management.
- Language Skilled: Demonstrate strong verbal, reading and written fluency in English and having the ability to briefly summarize the essence of issues and means to address them. Must possess strong public speaking skills to have meaningful dialogue with the audience.
- Computer Literate: Competently use the Internet, Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), and Bloomerang via an office/laptop computer, PC Tablet/Notebook, I-Pad. Ability to operate a printer, projector, copier, cell phone and/or other electronic devices.
Role & Responsibilities: The Philanthropy Ambassador collaborates with the Director of Development (DoD) and the CEO to assist the DoD in the execution of resource development strategies, including major gifts, fundraising events, grants, annual campaigns, and, sponsorships. The key responsibility of this role is to assist in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donors, with an emphasis on fostering their long-term engagement and continued support. The PA assists fundraising efforts to elevate the organization’s visibility and impact, is responsible for major-gift donor portfolio database management and is focused on increasing individual giving and sponsorships. This individual must demonstrate strategic vision, collaboration, emotional intelligence, and the ability to manage complex initiatives effectively. The PA must be a self-motivated professional with a commitment to the GHH’s mission, a track record of advancing relationships, and broad knowledge of development principles.
- Identify, develop and maintain a portfolio of individuals, foundations and corporate donors capable of providing and giving significant contributions of $5,000+ to support GHH’s mission and long-term financial goals focusing on the optimal combination of individual, foundation, and corporate giving, including annual/mid-level/major/planned gifts, workplace giving, corporate philanthropy, annual campaigns, and small gathering events. Ensure strategies and tactics remain competitive and produce planned results.
- Steward donors who have already made a donation to GHH.
- Develop and implement management strategies and approaches aimed at advancing donors into higher levels of giving and ultimately planned gifts.
- Conduct research to identify the goals, net worth, charitable donation history, or other data related to potential donors and/or investors, or general donor markets.
- Build relationships with donors and ensure all major donors receive appropriate, consistent recognition and an accounting of the impact of their donation to GHH.
- Attend community events, meetings or conferences to promote GHH’s mission, solicit donations or sponsorships, and build relationships.
- Assist with planning and executing events, and attend socials intended to increase awareness of GHHs mission, activities and contribution needs.
- Develop and identify a pipeline of prospective donors for long-term GHH support.
- Develop, implement and manage fundraising activities with set fund raising goals that focus on primarily individuals and corporate donors while maximizing participation and contributions and containing costs. Monitor and report the progress of fundraising activities and goals.
- Input and utilize Bloomerang data to track all actions and deadlines to enhance working knowledge, history of donors, conducting campaigns, and reporting utilization.
- Ability to write and produce quality proposals, reports and work with the Development Director as needed to produce major gift collateral as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Confidential Information: The PA will have access to organizational information, therefore, the PA must pay particular attention to, strictly adhere to and help to enforce organizational confidentiality and abiding privacy and employment laws.
Physical: In the course of performing this job, the PA will typically spend time sitting, walking, standing, listening/speaking, writing and operating a personal computer. S/he will be required to drive an automobile or use public transportation to attend meetings within the community. S/he is expected to lift and carry office records and supplies up to 40 lbs on an occasional basis. Requires some travel throughout north Orange County; therefore this position must have reliable transportation, a valid California Driver’s License, and ongoing, active automobile insurance that complies with state requirements. Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and fast paced. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions when driving to and from meetings. Part-time employees are eligible for our dental plan and supplemental benefits. However, they are not eligible for medical benefits.
