About Community Tech Network (CTN)

Community Tech Network (CTN) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with headquarters in San Francisco and partners across the country. Our mission is to transform lives through digital equity. Our partners include social service agencies, cities, library systems, housing and senior centers serving low-income populations and particularly isolated older adults. Our focus is providing digital literacy training, helping clients acquire devices and home internet, as well as training and supporting partners to deliver similar programming. We do our work in over eight languages and currently have an excellent staff of over 20, several regular contractors, and a 2024 budget of $3.2 million.

We believe that access to the internet is a human right, and that those without the skills to use computers and other digital devices are at risk of social and economic disadvantage. Public services and essential information are increasingly moving online, and many people are unable to access these resources. Many fine organizations are working to spread Internet connectivity to the underserved, but access to technology is only a partial solution. Connectivity needs to be coupled with digital skills training that is relevant and delivered in a way that won’t intimidate the adult learner.

About this Opportunity

CTN seeks a hands-on leader to provide overall strategic financial vision, direction, and oversight for the organization. Reporting directly to a nationally recognized Executive Director, the Associate Director of Finance will establish and implement sound business practices that will ensure CTN’s financial integrity and sustainability, and promote effective and efficient operations across departments. The successful candidate will be skilled in established accounting practices, using QuickBooks Online and being able to assess, review and make recommendations for fiscal policies and procedures.

The position will eventually hire and supervise other accounting and administrative staff, with the goal of building and supporting a Finance team. This position will also serve as a member of the executive leadership team and provide support to the Board of Directors’ Finance and Audit Committees. The Associate Director of Finance will work closely with CTN’s external audit company to ensure high fiscal integrity of financial statements and that CTN is following best practices in this area.

This is a remote position.

Responsibilities of the Position

Oversee and achieve continuous improvement in the implementation of CTN’s financial policies and procedures, ensuring strong financial controls, accurate accounting, and the integrity of systems.
Maximize resources available to the organization through sound financial management practices.
Lead short- and long-term financial planning, including coordination of the annual budgeting process.
Monitor financial performance and ensure timely preparation of monthly and annual financial statements in compliance with FASB and other applicable standards; and monitor budget-to-actual performance.
Prepare weekly cash flow projections and manage cash on hand.
Manage annual independent audit, program audits, government grants and contracts audits.
Work annually with an outside agency to prepare 990.
Own all the high level financial duties such as financial forecasting and planning, strategic reserve growth, expanded revenue modeling.
Work closely with Directors and other support functions on budgeting, pricing, forecasting, and planning.
Manage all the day to day accounting activities (Quickbooks bookkeeping, Accounts Payables, Accounts Receivables, bank deposits, billing, invoicing, data entry, and month end close).
Work closely with the HR team to support payroll, benefits renewals, and insurance compliance.
Work with the HR and Leadership Team on personnel placement and needs related to the organization’s growth.
Work closely with the Operations team with respect to vendor contracts, insurance coverage, and new partner or learner intake.
Manage and support all budgets - annual organization-wide budget, programs budgets, and grants budgets.
Manage all monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting and financial close procedures including journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, account and bank reconciliations, billing and invoicing, grant reporting, and financial reporting to both internal and external users.
Lead the monthly board finance committee meetings and present reports such as profit loss and balance sheets at the monthly board meetings.
Work with program and fundraising managers on any financial needs that arise.
Create costing models to calculate cost of delivering programs.
Management of financial forecasting, cash flow projections, and building a strategic reserve.
Establish a line of credit to ensure financial stability for the organization.
Establish a 30-60-90 contingency plan for cash on hand.
Hire and manage an Accountant when the organization is ready to expand the Finance team.
Other fiduciary duties that may arise.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following:

Undergraduate accounting degree required.
CPA is highly desirable.
Five years of progressively responsible management experience desired, including at least two-five years of experience in developing and supervising staff.
Minimum of five years of relevant experience managing finances and operations in a nonprofit organization desired.
Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in nonprofit accounting, finance, grants management, compliance, and reporting, and QuickBooks Online.
Familiarity with Financial Accounting Standards Board requirements for accounting in nonprofit organizations.
Ability to think strategically, anticipate future needs, trends, and consequences, and build the organization framework to address dynamic circumstances.
Excellent analytical skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to present financial information effectively and simplified to the audience’s level of expertise.
Proven organizational and prioritization skills.
Commitment to high standards, personal accountability, and a passion for excellence.

Ability to manage and make progress on multiple projects simultaneously.
Experienced user of Microsoft Office’s Word and Excel, Dropbox, Google Suite, and QuickBooks Online.
Familiarity with standard office technology and telecommunications devices and services, and the ability to interact with third party vendors to secure consistent and reliable support.

Compensation

$75,000-$80,000 with benefits.
