Position Summary
The Director of Fund Development will work closely with the senior leadership team to develop the vision and strategic internal and external fund development plans in support of the overall mission and goals of Citrus Council. This includes collaborating with teams throughout Citrus Council to support their initiatives and ensure the delivery of high-quality experiences.
The Director will lead the fund development plans and work side-by-side to ensure a strong presence throughout the council’s six counties.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the development function and monitor effectiveness of the activities with guidance and support from the Chief Philanthropy Officer.
- Support the creation and implementation of the comprehensive written annual resource development plan with the Chief Philanthropy Officer that includes strategies for donors and prospects in each constituent group including organizations, foundations, corporations, etc.
- Build out an Annual Fund Program, including strategy and execution for targeted direct mail appeals (renewals, upgrades, and acquisition 1-2 times annually), email appeals, online giving, stewardship and targeted strategies for increased giving.
- Build donor relationships with small annual and monthly donors, providing needed cultivation, stewardship and opportunities to make more substantial gifts over time.
- Implement a thorough donor acknowledgment and stewardship system and work with CEO to maintain consistent contact with major donors to include several donor cultivation events throughout the year for annual and planned giving donors (JGL Society). Manage fundraising database and tracking system.
- Implement various fundraising events as assigned.
- Collaborate with Marcomm and staff to conceptualize, design, and write annual fundraising campaign materials. Work in collaboration with the Council’s Marcomm team to design, produce, and disseminate development collateral (including but not limited to solicitation letters, Annual Report, etc.).
- Provide monthly reports to the Chief Philanthropy Officer, which measure progress toward achieving fund development goals.
- Participate in community events and appropriate professional organizations promoting the agency.
- Develop and cultivate community partnerships to support the Council’s fund development goals.
- In collaboration with Council staff, create and implement strategies for a sponsorship program.
- Keep up to date on current fundraising programs, practices, and procedures used in the nonprofit sector and inform the leadership of items that would benefit the Council.
- Collaborate with staff, board, and volunteers to gather stories and outcome statistics that demonstrate the results and value of programs funded.
- Write and review compelling grant proposals to secure funding from various sources.
Education and Experience
- Knowledge of Girl Scouts of Citrus and GSUSA policies and procedures.
- Knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office Suite, CRM, and project management systems.
- Proven results in fundraising success particularly in cultivating individuals, corporations and major gifts – preferably in a non-profit setting.
- Experience in making successful asks of $10,000+.
- Demonstrated excellence in written, verbal communication, and customer service.
- Upbeat and energetic individual with the ability to work cooperatively with different types of personalities.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends if needed.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Power Point, Word, and Excel.
- Knowledge of graphic design, video production, social media, and web design.
- Experience in managing media plans, print contracts, and marketing campaign execution.
- Proficient in Salesforce and Looker software platforms.
- Bi-lingual preferred (Spanish and English).
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
- Travel throughout council jurisdiction, up to 25% of the time.
- Capability to provide own transportation and maintain valid operator license.
- Register annually for a GSUSA membership and have a favorable criminal background check.
- Skills in planning and organization of projects, deadlines, and meetings.
- Excellent oral and written communication.

- Adept in proofreading, grammar, and business writing.
- Ability to provide positive customer service to both internal and external customers.
