If you’re a strong and eloquent writer, whose writing on climate and environmental issues has been published in mainstream media outlets such as Inside Climate News, E&E News, and The Hill, we need your help.
Anthropocene Alliance (A2), a Florida-based nonprofit, has more than 400 member-communities in all U.S. states and territories – and counting!
Our members’ communities are impacted by a number of environmental issues, including flooding, toxic waste, wildfires, drought and heat — all compounded by reckless development and climate change.
The goal of A2 is to help communities fight back. We do that by providing organizing support, scientific and technical guidance, and better access to foundation and government funding. Most of all, our work consists of listening to our frontline leaders. Their experience, research and solidarity guide everything we do, and offer a path toward environmental and social justice.
As we recruit new members, we introduce their activities and achievements to the public via two-paragraph (1,000 characters each) profiles that are posted to our website. The profiles are useful for members seeking funding, partnerships and media attention.
A2 is seeking experienced environmental journalists who are able to work quickly, accurately and independently to craft brief, clear and compelling profiles of new members as they come on board.
Writers will be assigned organizations and will gather information for the profiles by meeting with a member organization representative via Zoom and phone, visiting members’ web sites and social media pages, and researching news articles, videos and analytical platforms such as EJScreen and FEMA National Risk Index.
Following a template, writers are expected to produce between two and four profiles a week. This work will involve researching information, including non-copyrighted photos (either from social media or in the public domain) setting up and attending a virtual meeting with the member, or viewing previously recorded meetings. Writers will be responsible for submitting drafts to the member organization for review. After the profiles have been approved, they will be submitted to an A2 staff member for final approval.
This opportunity is ongoing as long as the work is available. Writers who establish a track record of well-written profiles, will also be invited to write newsletters for us.
