About the Role:

The Senior Grants Program Officer (Sr. GPO) will be entrusted to manage Pride Foundation’s grantmaking, which includes building relationships with grantees, fiscally managing and allocating community grant funding, from relationship building to applications processes, check-ins, effective internal organizational communications, maintaining pertinent communication records, evaluation and the development of organizational reports through the use of database and application systems.

The Sr. GPO will also be responsible for using observational data as well as pertinent stakeholders and grantee communications. These communications will be used by the Sr. GPO to identify capacity-building opportunities beyond direct funding for the grantees that Pride Foundation can pilot. The Sr. GPO will also be tasked with identifying engagement opportunities that partners can offer. The Sr. GPO will be expected to conduct all aspects of their position in alignment to Pride Foundation’s values.

The Sr. GPO is expected to bring a wealth of knowledge in transformative philanthropy and be able to apply it to funding decisions; utilize relational and observational analyses of organizations and programming to inform decision-making; be anchored in racial justice and anti-oppressive principles that center community trust and be an expert in relationship and community building.

The Sr. GPO reports to the Director of Programs and works closely with another Sr. GPO as well as the Program Operations Manager.

Primary Responsibilities

The Sr. GPO is expected to be thoughtful, creative, and a relationship-builder who can develop, lead, and implement Pride Foundation’s grantmaking strategies in line with our values and best practices in Trust-Based Philanthropy.

Grants Management (40%)

Implement all aspects of Pride Foundation’s community grants programs including participating in strategy development, outreach, administrative processes, and due diligence.
Develop region-wide outreach strategy in collaboration with the Grants team including sharing feedback, learnings, and working to integrate community knowledge into program strategies.
Strategically and collaboratively create and implement outreach plan and relationship building with the Grants team, including managing day-to-day communication with community partners/grantee partners and providing thoughtful and proactive support and technical assistance.
Identify and build relationships with new and emerging organizations and groups that are in line with Pride Foundation’s priority communities, in partnership with the Grants team.
Manage a portfolio of grantees, including coordinating and conducting check-ins and relationship-building meetings with community partner organizations, applicants, and grantees, writing and maintaining reports, and distilling key learnings and trends in LGBTQ+ communities across the region.
Implement Trust Based principles throughout all outreach, including actively researching and identifying Trust-Based Philanthropy best practices and sharing recommendations for process evolution with the grants team.
Prepare data, story sharing, and other information sharing that helps build meaningful partnerships and ensure that partner outreach and relationship building is steered by data gained from grantee communication that can be utilized by different organizational departments as needed.

Grant Making Strategies (25%)

Work with the Director of Programs and Grants Team to build a comprehensive strategy for Community Grants and all Responsive Funding and Special Initiatives, including: establishing priorities in a community-informed way; building out the systems for applications, reviews, decision-making criteria, and preparing the dockets for documentation and approval.
Create, evolve, and maintain a platform for grants management, including tracking communications, contact, and updates from community partners by utilizing grants management software. This position is also expected to utilize Asana for task management.
Support organizations in determining alignment with Pride Foundation’s grantmaking programs, and in certain cases, providing additional technical assistance and support to organizations in securing funding from Pride Foundation.
Collaborate with Director of Programs and Communications Manager to share grants program stories, including messaging on outreach plans, program structure, and alignment with organizational mission and values that inform grant making approaches.
Research grantmaking best practices including (but not limited to): Social Justice Philanthropy, Trust-Based Philanthropy, and Participatory Grantmaking, and use these best practices to inform and evolve Pride Foundation’s grant and capacity-building strategies and processes.
Evaluate grantmaking strategies and programs, incorporate community feedback, and make changes as needed.

Capacity Building Strategy (25%)

Gather, synthesize, and analyze grantee communications to inform development of key strategies and approaches to identify and offer capacity-building opportunities for grantee capacity building and technical assistance.
Leverage community partnerships to identify opportunities to support grantees in accessing partner capacity-building programming
Brainstorm, strategize and implement the creation, development and coordination of replicable capacity-building approaches based on collected data from current and previous programmatic outcomes.
Build out an efficient timeline and implementation plan for offering capacity building for grantees throughout Pride Foundation’s developed strategic plan trajectory
Evaluate effectiveness of capacity building strategizing and pilot implementation opportunities annually for grantees in preparation for a final report.

Grow and apply the skills and practices needed to create an inclusive organizational culture including (but not limited to): clear and kind communication, giving and receiving feedback, mutual accountability, self-care and boundaries.
Contribute to developing a culture of philanthropy at Pride Foundation by incorporating friend and fund raising as appropriate throughout work.

Ability to manage long-term goals of projects, be flexible and adaptive to time-sensitive opportunities, and maintain accountability for deliverables.
Exceptional project management experience and ability to scope, plan, and implement projects and deliverables in a timely way, with attention to detail, and amidst multiple deadlines and identified priorities.
Familiarity with managing database and online application systems, and project management tools like Asana.
Strong experience in community organizing and/or outreach, particularly within BIPOC, Two Spirit, trans, non-binary, intersex and/or gender diverse communities.
Strong experience building deep, trusting, and lasting community relationships, and the ability to collaborate and work as part of a team.
Experience in recruiting and vetting subcontractors as necessary for programmatic purposes.
Ability to share ideas around strategy, with both excitement and constructive critique.
Commitment to power-sharing and shifting to communities most impacted by inequities.
Ability to engage in clear and transparent communication within the organization and with community partners.
Experience with relationship building, program implementation and management as well as providing technical assistance in a virtual setting
Experience in community building in and/or across rural, small town, and urban areas
Experience working with diverse staff and teams toward achieving strategic goals and developing organizational culture.
Ability to hold uncertainty with a deep feeling of investment in continuous improvement that mitigates for stagnancy.
Experience working with LGBTQ+ communities and/or communities disproportionately impacted by injustice, including communities of color, trans and non-binary communities, indigenous communities and tribal nations, immigrant communities, rural communities, etc.
Understanding and experience working on issues related to intersectional social justice (including racial, LGTBQ+, gender, disability, economic, and/or reproductive justice).

While not required, these are additional skills and experiences we are looking for in candidates:

Experience working with communities in the geographical region of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington.

Location and Position Details 

This is a full-time, exempt position. This position is remote, though candidates should live in or be willing to relocate to one of the five Northwest states Pride Foundation serves. Pride Foundation is place-based and our residence in the region we serve is a critical part of how we lean into our values. Staff members in the greater Puget Sound region have the option to work out of our headquarters office in Seattle. Pride Foundation has a 4-day, 32-hour work week. Flexibility to work some evenings, weekends, and occasionally travel are necessary. Travel includes to staff/board retreats, conferences, and for outreach and site visits.
